Pancakes

Breakfast time.

Red swivel stools side-by-side. Sticky jug of syrup, short and stout. Jukebox, clinking plates, morning greetings. Mugs of coffee drained; refilled; drained; refilled. Apple hotcake, bed for maple pool. Boat of butter floats, then melts. Forks dive.

Dinner time.

Clock hands kiss nine, pancakes and wine. Foggy windows and hushed conversations. Cooks at the griddle, batter sizzles. Fluffy stack, berries on top. Crinkle cut fries on the side. Powdered sugar stars sprinkle sky.
